It was in 1929 that the first Basketball Court in Trivandrum was opened in the then H. H. Maharajas Science College (Now the University College) premises. Simultaneously Basketball Courts were opened in H.H. Maharajas Arts College (Now the Government Arts College) and in the Government Law College. In those days Basketball was mostly played by College students.
The Travancore Olympic Association based in Trivandrum started the Sri Chithra Basketball Tournament under the leadership of Shri. A. Raghavan Nair, a Champion Athlete and a sports promoter. In this annual tournament teams from Nagercoil, Kottayam and Pulinkunnu took part. The Trivandrum teams used to participate in the one and only other tournament conducted by the Kottayam YMCA in those years. Shri. GEORGE ZACHARIAH is ever honoured as the God Father of Trivandrum Basketball.
The Travancore Cochin Basketball Association was formed in 1952 on the initiative of Shri. A. Raghavan Nair. In fact Shri, Raghavan Nair nominated his friend Sri. K.E. Eapen, a PWD Engineer and Sri. Parameswaran Pillai a Lecturer in Arts College as President and Secretary respectively of TC Basketball Association. Sri. Abraham Thomas known as Babu a former State & University player who joined AG’s Office, Trivandrum as Accountant became the Secretary of KBA after Shri. Parameswaran Pillai in 1963. Shri. Parameswaran Pillai later became the Associate Secretary of BFI followed by Shri. Abraham Thomas. Shri. Abraham Thomas was selected as the Manager of the Indian Youth Team for the Asian Youth Championship at Manila in 1974. He resigned from the post of the Secretary KBA in 1974.
