KERALA'S IRIN ELSA JOHN SELECTED TO REPRESENT INDIA IN THE JR. NBA GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Twenty Youth Players from India Selected to Compete in Second Jr. NBA Global Championship in U.S. August 6-11 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Florida –
Irin Elsa John the only one from Kerala been selected to represent India in the NBA World Championship. The 13-year-old Kerala girl have been included in the 10-member as NBA today announced the 10 boys and 10 girls who will represent India in the second Jr. NBA Global Championship, a youth basketball tournament for the top 13- and 14-year-old boys and girls teams from around the world that will be held August 6-11 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.
She been called along with other three from Mumbai NBA office in Mumbai and surprised about their inclusion in the Indian team.
Irin was the member of the Kerala team in the NBA India National Championship and helped Kerala to the runner up at the National Championship at Nodia, recently. Following which three girls from Kerala were included in the Indian Team selection camp of 20. A satisfactory performance during the camp gave her a berth in the Indian team.
Irin Elsa’s mother Jiji was also an Indian Camper, now working in central railways at Mumbai was a student of Mount Carmel School in Kottayam and practices at the Mount Carmel School at Kottayam.
The Junior NBA Global Championship India Selection Camp was held from April 29 to 30 at The NBA Academy India in Noida. The camp featured 40 participants from the Reliance Foundation Jr. NBA Skills Challenges, City Competitions and National Finals, and the focus was on positional skill development and five-on-five competition. Based on the performance players were selected.
The Jr NBA Global Championship will feature boys and girls divisions, separated into US and international brackets that begin with round-robin play and continue with single-elimination competition. The winners of the US and international brackets will play in the Global Championship games too on August 11. During the week long event, all 32 teams will participate in activities designed to reinforce the Jr. NBA’s core values and provide the players with development opportunities and memorable experiences off the court, including life skills sessions, Disney park visits and a community service project.
The NBA global championship will be a big morale booster for both these young players of Kerala .
