Kottayam Girls won the Title in an Double extra time Thriller
Thodupuzha The finals of the girls was an electrifying one as Kottayam riding on International Ann Mary zacharia who contributed a half century for her team defeated Thiruvananthapuram 96-95 in a match which went for two extra periods and in another thriller in boys Kottayam beat host Idukki 82-67 here at the 43rd Edition of Kerala State Junior Basketball Championship for boys and girls will be held in Shanthal Jyothi Public School Flood lit Indoor Basketball Stadium organised by Idukki District Basketball Association under the aegis of Kerala Basketball Association.
Trivandrum girls anchored by Senior International Sreekala R went into an early lead as they lead 17-12 in the first quarter and wrapped up the Interval with a 44-28
Trivandrum continued his dominance in third quarter and lead 57-46 at the end
Trivandrum started to lose the match committing fouls starting with their semi final Star Krishna Priya , the first one to go out with five fouls followed by International Sreekal R who also has to sit down on the bench for Trivandrum committing five fouls
Kottayam also had a set back as their tall and lanky International Anu Maria also committing five fouls which forced Ann maria fight an lone battle with a contribution of 50 points for her team and help to end up the regular playing time with the score of 74-74
The game then went into an extra period that too ended up on the score standing 84-84
The second extra period saw Kottayam taking the championship piping Trivandrum 96-95
Sree Kala was the top scorer for Trivandrum with 28 Points
Kottayam Men defends Boys Title
Defending champions Kottayam and Idukki came on to the finals with an unbeaten record in the championship
Kottayam With the dominance of Players from St Ephrem’s School School Kottayam started the 1st Quarter leading 22-16, Idukki virtually the team of host Shanthal Jyothi Public School fought back in the second quarter and ended up the 1st half with a 2 point deficit (40-38)
The third quarter saw Kottayam increasing their lead through Sajeesh the top scorer of the Team (30 points) and their international Jerome Prince ending up the 3rd quarter to a 62-38 lead before defending the championship with the score 82-67
Bronze for Trivandrum Boys and Kannur Girls
Trivandrum boys anchored by NBA academy lad Pranav Prince defeated Kozhikode 65-38 and Kannur girls beat Thrissur 83-72 to claim the Bronze medal
On Friday late Semi Final matches Trivandrum girls beat Thrissur 86-83 and in Boys Idukki scrape past Kozhikode (62-61) to reach the finals
