33RD FEDERATION CUP BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Noida 16th June 2019 :   Punjab Police and  Eastern Railway emerged triumphant in the men’s and on women’s sections in the 33rd Federation Cup Basketball Championship organised by the Uttar Pradesh Basketball Association  under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India at Gautham Budda University in Noida .

The Punjab Police men  with 2 professionals in Amjoth and Amrithpal  the side beat Indian Army 91-71   in a well contested final with Arshpreet Singh  leading the way with 24 points. Followed by Amjoth Sing with 20 points.

Sunil was the leading scorer for Indian Army with 18 points

In the women’s final, Eastern Railway  out played Tamil Nadu , winning 86-67  to came as the New champion in women

After a good start of  29-15 in the first quarter Eastern Railway slowly loses the control and Tamil Nadu  close the  gap and the  1st half allowing the  lead  only 46-42 , the Eastern Railway  looked in control as they kept scoring regularly. For Eastern  Railway, the tall post players Libina came up  with 28  points followed by 6 ftr Poonam Chathurvedi contributing 26   with Madhu Kumari 13 pts and Sithamani Tudu with 12 Supporting them well  for Tamil Nadu Dharshin agains came as the leading scorer making 19 points  4 rebounds and 7 assists

 

 Kerala Women  and Income Tax Chennai  Secure Third Place

 

Kerala beat Maharashtra 91-70

The Kerala Women faced the Maharashtra Women  today morning to decide the 3rd and 4th places.The Kerala  team got off to a strong start with 24-18  lead at the end of the first quarter and completed the 1st half with a 52-28 lead . Kerala’s  International player Anjanna P.G  top scored with 26 points and 12 rebounds , supported by Captain Poojamol KS with 16 and Stephy Nixon Scoring 15  Shruthi Aravind  was the lone warrior for Maharashtra with 41 points and 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Income Tax Chennai beat Guru Gobind College Chandigarh 96-70

The Men  3rd and 4th place match was between Income Tax Chennai  and Shri Guru Gobind college Chandigarh   . The Income tax had an comfortable lead of 62—41 in the first half itself  Sivan Balan  top scored for Income Tax  with 34  points while another center player Jeevanathan came up with 17 points and 10 rebounds  For Shri Guru Gobind College International player Ravi Bhardwaj did the bulk of the scoring with 33 point.

The Honourable Minister for Youth affairs & Sports and Minister of States for Minority affairs Shri Kiran Riju was the Guest of  the valedictory  function  and gave away the prizes and cash awards to the players.

The top three teams received trophies and medals. In the tune of 1 lakh for winners runner up 50,000 and 3rd place 25000
