National Winners and International Players Honored

KOCHI : As many as 200 former basketball players and coaches from across the country and abroad gathered at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Kadavanthra here on Sunday to rekindle the memories of their years in the sport. The reunion was organised by Team Rebound, a registered charitable society founded in 2016 by former basketball players to promote and popularize the game, as part of their third annual conclave.

The legendary hoopsters in attendance included former India captains Tall 7 ft 4 inches Sunil Kumar Panda who also was the guest of Honor on both days.

Former International players Leelamma Santhosh ,Unwin J Antony, Satheesh Menon ,C V Sunny including president Muhammed Iqbql , Jeena Zacharia, Ambily Thomas, Sheeba Augustine, Emily K Mathew , V V Harilal, Renny Harilal and Zacharia Thomas were among those who also attended.

85-year-old Dr Thomas Abraham was the oldest one who participated in the conclave.

In the matches of Men above 40 category  Team Purackal Honda lead by Jenson Peter defeated  Donut Factory in 39-35 to win the above 40 men.

In Men above 50 Team Kurisnkal lead by Shibu K Hormis won all their three matches and crowned as champions  in round-robin league as they beat  IBM Kuwait 42-29 again defeated Team Global 49-33 while,

In Men above 60 categories Rebound Red lead by veteran 77 years old  VT Xavier s scrape past Rebound Blues lead by N M G Prasad  with score 16-15 to came as champions.

The conclave also honoured 2018-19 the International players as well as the youth Basketball team that won Gold and  Silver respectively at Coimbatore last Month.

Former State Secretary Shri Cherian Thomas who have rendered valuable contribution to Basketball was also felicitated.

 Srekala S Raniwho  Participated in the  FIBA U18 Asian Women’s Championship 2018  in Bengaluru, India on 28th October and to  3rd November 2018

Sreekala R also represented  Senior Indian women Team at the FIBA 3X3 Asia Cup to be held in Changsha, China from 22nd – 26th May 2019

Also participated in the NBA Academy India second The NBA Academy India Women’s Program from January 22-25, 2019.

Ann Mary Zacharia   from Mount Carmel  HSS Kottayam to participate in the 1st  ever NBA Academy and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA The 2019 NBA Academy Next Generation Global Camp  held in Tampa, Florida (USA) from April 3 – 7, 2019,

FIBA U18 Asian Women’s Championship 2018  in Bengaluru, India on 28th October and to  3rd November 2018

NBA Academy India second The NBA Academy India Women’s Program from January 22-25, 2019. In Noida

Anu Maria Represented FIBA U18 Asian Women’s Championship 2018  in Bengaluru, India on 28th October and to  3rd November 2018

Irin Elsa John also  of mount Carmel Kottayam the only one from Kerala been selected to represent India in the NBA World Championship Jr. NBA Global Championship, a youth basketball tournament for the top 13- and 14-year-old boys and girls teams from around the world that will be held Aug. 6-11 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida. 

Arjun Unnikrishnan from St Josephs School Trivandrum Member  of the Gold Medal Team winning FIBA U16 Asian Championship Qualifying round 2019 held at Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Prem Kumar S who got his job as  the Interim Coach in NBA academy in NOIDA and is now the part of the 5 member Crew at NBA Academy.

The absentees were Sejin Mathew who represented Senior India and Pranav Prince who is now at Atlanta Participating in Global games of NBA academy.

Shri Nebu Nettikkadan was the Chief Guest on the closing day.

The closing function was Presided by  P J Sunny president KBA and Prince K Mattom secretary also rendered  Felicitation.

Leelamma Santhosh vice president welcomed the gathering and Vote of thanks by Ajikumar Nair secretary Team Rebound.
