BASIL AND SEBASTIAN TO REPRESENT INDIAN SENIOR TEAM FOR THE WILLIAM JONES CUP FROM KERALA

12th July 2017:  Basil Philip from Customs and central Excise Kochi and Sebastian P J of Kerala State Sports Council  as Asst coach from Kerala to represent Indian basketball team as they  depart today (Thursday)  for the 39th William Jones Cup International Basketball Tournament, which is being played from  15th to23rd  July  2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. The William Jones Cup will serve as excellent competitive exposure for India ahead of FIBA Asia Cup Starting on 8th of August in Lebanon 

The team is being coached by Philip John Weber from the USA , Weber spent nine years with the Phoenix Suns as assistant coach (1999-2008), followed by a four-year stint with New York Knicks, two years with Miami Heat as an offensive consultant and finally with New Orleans Pelicans for a year-long assignment as assistant coach in 2015.

S Bhaskar from SAI  along with  P J Sebastian from Kerala  State Sports Council will also Assist Him The team  includes Anil Kumar B K, Arjun Singh, Pratham Singh, Basil Philip, Jeevanath Pandi, Rikhin Pethan, ,Amjoth singh, and Baldaneshwar Poiyamozhi , Priuhviswar Reddy

Raj Kumar Dubey will be the team physiotherapist and Devender Kumar will be the team manager. Celine Michael will be the international referee from India officiating at the event.

The William Jones Cup is a basketball tournament that has been held annually in Taipei since 1977. The tournament was named in honor of Renato William Jones, who was one of the founders of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). One team represents each country, and that team could be the national team, a professional club, or a college team. The tournament will be played in a single round-robin format, and the final points tally will determine the placing of the teams.

Their first game for India is on is against Iraq on 15th July Their second game is against South Korea, on 16th July. Their third game is against Republic of China Blue, on 17th July. Their fourth game is against Iran, on 18th July  Fifth Game on 19th July against Lithuania Sixth against Republic of China White on 29th July, Seventh on 21st July against .Canada, Eight against Philpinnes on 22nd July   Their final game is against Japan, on 23rd July. All their games will be played at the Changhua Gymnasium, Changhua County, Taiwan.
